www.napster.com is a pirate heaven of MP3 songs. mostly populated by college students. They load an FTP server on your system, which allows users access to your MP3 folders (you select).

there are some upload issues, and bad versions of MP3 songs abound, so you have to be intelligent.

A DSL or T1 pipe is preferred as a download.

It is easy to load 5-6 gigs of songs over a month. Its difficult to listen to them all.

RIAA is suing them for hosting a pirate society. Actually they should let it stay around. I've bought CDs after downloading bootleg versions, and I rarely if ever listen to the downloads I do have. but then I'm older than the average college student (by far)

Don't try it on a modem it takes too long.

there are over 200,000 songs on napster at any time.

ps
i bought a bigger HD because of napster...
Also, if you look at TIVO, its seriously under capacity. How many video tapes do you have around the house? I think it should hold 1 terabits, and hold about 1000 hrs of video.

For personal use, its a bit much but for a family, its necessary. there would not be arguments about what shows to watch anymore.
