Briefing.com's Walberg Sees Attention Returning To Tech
Dow Jones Newswires

NEW YORK -- The recent rally for old economy stocks will continue for two or three weeks, but soon attention will return to new economy stocks, said Bob Walberg, chief equity analyst at Briefing.com.

"The money is going to return, as we go through earning season next month, back to technology and some of the biotechnology stocks that are exhibiting the real strong top-line growth that is attracting most of the momentum money," said Walberg in a CNBC interview Monday.

He thinks investors should try to identify and buy leadership stocks in new economy sectors and hold them for "the next couple of years" - riding out the inevitable dips in a volatile marketplace.

Walberg said he likes Ariba Inc. (ARBA), Commerce One Inc. (CMRC), Nokia Corp. (NOK) and Qualcomm Inc. (QCOM).

2/29/00 - PrairieComm To Develop CDMA/GSM Cell Phone Processor; New IC Will Be First to
Combine Two Leading Standards On Single Platform

NEW ORLEANS, Feb 29, 2000 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- PrairieComm Inc. announced today its plans to
develop a single-chip baseband processor supporting both the Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA)
and Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) standards for digital cellular telephony.

The new chip will bring together the world's two largest markets for wireless products and technology,
allowing digital handsets to function across multiple standards -- and vast geographic regions.

"PrairieComm's CDMA/GSM single-chip solution focuses on current demand for multi-mode,
second-generation cellular technology while marking an important milestone in the transition to
third-generation, or '3G' standards," said Tom Farmer, PrairieComm vice president of worldwide sales.
"Tomorrow's cell phone technology is rooted in today's. A proven ability to develop products across the
TDMA, CDMA, and GSM standards is a prerequisite to success in 3G."

The CDMA/GSM baseband processor will enable cellular handset manufacturers to build a single phone
that works worldwide. With a common engineering platform that supports the three dominant
second-generation wireless standards, PrairieComm alone can provide a multi-mode solution to handset
manufacturers serving a global market. All PrairieComm products, including the CDMA/GSM chip,
address the size, power consumption, and cost concerns currently driving handset design. The
CDMA/GSM device comes in a chip-scale ball-grid array (BGA) package that helps reduce overall phone
size and extend battery life.

By combining their expertise in CDMA and GSM technology, PrairieComm delivers a single processor
that supports two digital standards at the same price point as competitive devices supporting only one.
This expertise also plays an important role as the wireless industry moves toward 3G products and
technology.

"Wireless industry evolution toward next generation networks started to accumulate notable momentum
toward the end of 1999," noted Bryan Prohm, wireless industry analyst with Stamford, Conn.-based
Gartner Group. "That pace will only accelerate during 2000 as handset vendors and operators alike
commercialize a new generation of multi-mode handsets that allow greater subscriber access to once
disparate networks around the world."

EDITOR'S NOTE: This announcement comes on day two of the Wireless 2000 trade show in New
Orleans, produced by the Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association. PrairieComm is exhibiting at
the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, Booth No. 2423.

PrairieComm. After reading through the news stories, It appears that they have only announced their intention to develop a dual CDMA.GSM chip set---but not yet done so. Apparently they have developed CDMA and GSM chipsets separately in the past.
