Hi mike:

Re. the ADCT-RBAK deal, recall that ADCT was one
of the financial backers of Siara, which was purchased
for stock by RBAK. I guess ADCT was counting on Siara for
SONET and IP transport solutions for video signals.

I don't think that this in any way invalidates the
purchase of PAIR, since Avidia is not really targeted
at video delivery.

Best regards,

Bernard Levy

Go to RBAK's site and read about their products - totally different than PAIR. RBAK's box works in all formats.

MikeM,

<Now I'm totally perplexed by this move? Recently ADCT just bought Pairgain(sym:PAIR) for what I thought was their Avidia access concentrator. So why in the world do a business deal with what I thought was a direct competitor to the Avidia product? I'm at a loss on this one. Especially the line in the PR where, via the agreement, Redback Networks can take it's newly upgraded SMS 500 product and sell into the telco space right up against what will soon be ADC's Avidia product?>

At the surface it looks to me like this partnership has more to do with Siara's products than the "original" RBAK stuff. Siara was pickedup by RBAK a few months back for their optical expertise. PAIR doesn't have anything in this space to my knowledge.

Also, as you observe RBAK doesn't seem to have made much headway into the cable land. (my knowledge on this is a bit dated - there may be others on this thread who are more uptodate).

Looks like a win-win deal to me.

Chuck
