Guys, look at the averages. It is a foregone conclusion that greenspan is going to raise margin requirements tomorrow. It is the only way to fight runaway speculation in the tech sector without hurting the rest of the market.

And the fed can avoid all blame entirely for the resulting crash, because they will loudly proclaim they raised requirements because of the unprecedented margin debt increase over the last 3 months.

The daytraders/speculators will be blamed. Not the fed.

And that, above all else, is the job of the fed. To maintain its powers and profitability.
