Sun Micro Seeks Payments From Kingston Tech, LA Times Says


Palo Alto, California, March 20 (Bloomberg) -- Sun Microsystems Inc. is seeking an undisclosed amount of royalty payments from Kingston Technology Co. for allegedly taking over six patented technologies for the way that memory chips are put on modules that go into computers, the Los Angeles Times reported. Closely held Kingston contends the patents don't cover ordinary designs, though the memory modules covered by the patents represent about 80 percent of all products that Kingston makes. The lawsuit, filed in July, is one of a growing number of suits testing the limits of what can be covered by patents, which are being awarded in increasing numbers for technical innovations, the paper said.
