Richard

the people's liberation army is all for invading Taiwan, immediately.

Here is an interesting question I would like you to answer:

So the people's liberation army is all for invading Taiwan (sounds impressive)-

The Chinese lack a sophisticated amphibious naval force or any naval force at all for that matter-Just how does the people's liberation army plan to get to Taiwan? By going over a bridge??

Please tell...and don't tell me 10 billion Chinese are going to swim over...

Richard, Let's Cut to the Chase

Here is a fairly good link about Chinese / Taiwan offensive and defensive capabilities:

defenselink.mil

My conclusion, reading between the lines, is that the Chinese basically cannot successfully invade Taiwan at this moment but that may not be the case five to ten years down the road.
