Why would Intel risk upsetting their customers and giving AMD a window into the corporate market space? I think Intel is running as fast as they can to stay within shouting distance of AMD.

I don't think intel is dumb enough to stockpile any chip, much less low speed Coppermines.
OTOH, I don't know who said it first but I wouldn't be surprised if Intel is has a lot of mid-lower speed Coppermines to shove on the market.
