upside down

To quibble a little bit, Intel's unbelievable EGOWARE (TM) announcement of the 1 GHz Pentium, a part Intel could not deliver in volume, really "turned things upside down". Dresden might not be important had Intel not validated the importance of the AMD 1 GHz announcement to everyone including those not paying attention! This is a blunder a great as Nixon surrendering the tapes!

SpryGuy - Re: "...The Athy as a young champion is no where near peak performance.."

Oh ?

Then why did AMD have to Jack Up the AtheWiper's Power Supply Voltage from 1.6 volts to 1.7 volts and then again to 1.8 volts ?

Maybe AMD's customers prefer 65 watts of power dissipation instead of 35 watts !!

The ATHY is being Force Fed Electric-GERITOL - just to try and remain competitive with the Spry Coppy !!
