Wayne, Abe Lincoln proved that a third party can win. Of course, he got shot for his effort. <g> I think third parties work best with "guy next door" types of candidates. Folks who don't make sense, like John Anderson, and who don't make sense on Alpha Centauri, like Ross Perot, will never get a huge %. Somebody like a George Wallace can appeal to the voters that the parties don't dare to court. Wallace always said his segregationist policies held him back, but, I disagree. Without his racism, nobody would have ever heard of him.

I think Jesse has a lot of appeal, but his type of independence and willingness to speak out have never been winning strategies in the US. Even "Give 'Em Hell, Harry" knew when to kowtow.

The two parties are bankrupt, but they each have a huge power base. A third party would have to be able to grab a chunk of that base from both to have a fighting chance, and they mostly just appeal to fringe voters.
