Jim, this hit the NYT on Sat, I meant to post it, but it's a little off topic. See nytimes.com.

The hardware is more or less obsolete, or should we say "at the benthic end"? Probably no better than a used P133 which can be had for <$100 and has regular slots and stuff, BUT, the 10" 800x600 LCD display makes it worthwhile. Still, as they say, it's a hacker's project, and not worth it unless you like playing with stuff like that and have the time. Register follow up:

When I checked, the netpliance site was still selling it for $99 direct, with no apparent long term service commitment, though that may have changed with the national publicity.
