I also work with a Japanese professional....

if taiwan is attacked by china, his take on it is that the US "will save the day". He does not think Japan will be involved. The US will take on china. Notice that all trade for Japan goes thru the straits of taiwan.....it will be a big deal for ships to travel "around" taiwan....

Greenman does his quarter-point thing for BOTH Fed Funds & Discount rates; + FOMC statement:


The Federal Reserve raised short-term interest rates by
one-quarter of a percentage point Tuesday, to the highest level in nearly five years, in a bid to cool the hot U.S. economy. The widely expected move lifted the federal funds rate to 6 percent and the discount rate to 5-1/2 percent.
