Newbridge Gets $20 Million Hanaro Telecom Supply Pact

Dow Jones Online News, 03/21/2000 09:53

SEOUL -(Dow Jones)- Newbridge Networks (NN) said it has received a $20 million contract from Hanaro Telecom Inc. to supply the local multipoint distribution service, or LMDS, equipment for Hanaro's first year of broadband services.

In a news release, the company said Hanaro Telecom is a full-service telecommunications carrier operating in Korea and a license holder for B-WLL service.

Newbridge said a trial service will be carried out through April and May, in a limited area in Seoul before full commercial service becomes available, beginning in June.

The company said the contract outlines equipment and professional services for the first phase of the network construction, during which Newbridge will engineer and build data networks in Seoul, followed by build-outs in remaining cities in Korea.

Hanaro Telecom is a group of about 500 firms, including Dacom Inc., LG Group (Q.LGG), Samsung Electronics Co. (Q.SSE), SK Telecom Co. (Q.KMT) and Hyundai Electronics Industries Co. (Q.HEL).

Newbridge makes wide area networking solutions.
