CPQ has 34% of the server market, more than the next two combined. They ship more than 3,000 servers a day. In revenue terms, CPQ is still an easy #1. By comparison, their sales of server hardware are more than four times those of SUNW.

This initiative is a way for CPQ to use its cash to leverage its entry into the ASP market, an area where CPQ has already invested more than $600M. Their stated goal is to have 40% of the ASP business - in other words, to have a little more share in ASPs than they have in the general market. Seems sensible enough to me.
