OT - I was away for about two weeks and just caught up on 1500 posts, whew.

Sorry I missed the meeting, it sounds wonderful and the photos are great.

While you guys were drinking Opus 1 and doing the Lindy I was on the Magdalen Islands in the Gulf of the St. Lawrence River in Canada trying to see baby harp seals. The seals give birth to furry white pups at the same time each year on ice flows in a handful of northern locations. The Magdalen Islands are perhaps the only place where it is feasible to see them, but it requires taking a helicopter out onto the ice - and this year due to warm weather there was very little ice, mostly open water, so most days the helicopters had to stay on the ground. But we had one great day.

We located an ice flow about 60 miles out and found the seals. Unfortunately, the ice was not uniformly thick enough and each person was given a pole to probe the ice before taking each step - and still a few boots plunged through. Giving the expression "walking on thin ice" a most vivid meaning.

It's good to be back.
