Jeff, I understand that a tunable laser is able to accomodate different wavelengths whereas a fixed wavelength laser can only accomodate a certain wavelength. This means that with a tunable laser, the carrier only needs one laser part for the conventional bandwidth but other wise would need a separate laser for each wavelength. This is a big cost savings for the carrier. I would be surprised if Bell Labs did not have a tunable laser but is it good enough that it is actually being used? I just want to know if LU is staying up with the competition.
