Yes it is true you have to give to get. However, the part of your analysis that you have left out is that this deal was done when the price of the stock was in the $1 dollar range and the PP is already factored into the price. By the time regulatory approvals were complete and the deal could be announced, the favourable effect of having $10 million in the war chest was reflected in the stock price thus making it an attractive opportunity for institutional investors.

As well, there are generally minimum block requirements, usually $150,000, a specified holding period before shares can be traded(3- 6 moths), and sometimes a requirement to purchase additional shares on the open market (100,000 shares). When all is said and done, with or without these restrictions, having high demand from institutions is definitely a positive reflection on LAN's potential.
