tekboy: As with most situations in the real world, there was (and is) an alternative B. (and C...).

Many moons ago when I was searching fiberoptics for a gorilla and found none, I did pick up both Uniphase (the predecessor of JDS Uniphase) and SDL Inc at the same time - a "basket" of a king and a prince - with much heavier weighting for the king.

Both companies have excellent management, strong technological skills and substantial penetration in an exploding market.

I have simply hung on to both. Not sorry.

So you do not have to "churn" if you choose carefully in the first place.

Zero realized short term or long term gain so no tax. (yet)

See no reason to sell either and plenty of reason to buy on dips (which I do).

Note that in the discussions of my game here I have tried to be careful to point out that while IMO JDSU is my "One King", SDLI deserves DD as the smaller but excellent possibility in fiberoptics components (widget) supply.

Again as Bruce Brown has suggested, there are perhaps times and situations (no gorilla in this case) when a "basket" of two or three stocks is a sensible approach.

Just an alternative for those interested. And consistent with Gorilla Game principles as I understand them.

Best.

Thanks for the chart techboy. What nice lookin charts.

You bring up several good points, but if I'm not mistaken your premise about dropping SDLI for JDSU is off as Jubab has not recommended selling SDLI along the way. Two columns ago he actually said now might be a good time to add to your SDLI, and the last column he advised JDSU for the first time. He provides some really nice analysis in several of the stocks annointed Kings and a few Gorillas so IMO he is a nice source for additional research and provoking thoughts.

Best Regards,
Bretsky
