Energy/Communication (Optical Network) 05:49 ET American Electric Power Co (AEP) 29 13/16: WSJI reporting that this energy company will combine with five other energy/communications companies including - GPU Inc (GPU:26 5/16), Allegheny Energy Inc (AYE: 26 9/16), FirstEnergy Corp (FE: 19 13/16) and CFW Communications Co (CFWC: 38 7/8) - to create 7,000 miles of fiber optic networks across 11 states. The new company, to be named America's Fiber Network, will provide small cities with their first alternative to fiber services offered by local phone companies and in some cases the only high speed fiber access.
