RNWK--L90 Inc., First Internet Advertising Network to Launch Targeted Broadband Category, Brings the Next Phase of Online Advertising to Advertisers
BUSINESS WIRE - March 21, 2000 09:19
LOS ANGELES, Mar 21, 2000 (BUSINESS WIRE) --

Tickets.com Will Be First Advertiser to Launch Audio and Video "Webmercial" on L90 Web Site Partners globalmedia.com and Scour(TM)

L90 Inc., a leading provider of Internet advertising and direct marketing solutions, today became the first Internet advertising network to deliver a full-service, targeted Broadband category for advertisers seeking more dynamic, richer interactive tools to reach consumers that have a high-speed Internet connection.

L90Broadband is an expansion of L90's network of comprehensive vertical categories including Sports, Entertainment, e-Commerce and 18-34 year olds. Premier entertainment and e-Commerce site, Tickets.com, will use L90's services to make its first foray into broadband-targeted advertising.

"The first generation of Internet advertising included banners, buttons and text links," said John Bohan, President and CEO, L90 Inc. "The second generation involved two-dimensional content integration, co-branded microsites and interstitials. Now, with L90Broadband, we are heralding the arrival of the third generation -- audio and video streaming media," he said.

According to Bohan, L90Broadband will provide advertisers opportunities for integrated product placements within existing content, in-stream audio/video advertisements, embedded e-commerce opportunities, audio/video banner ads, and "Webmercials" mimicking the traditional television advertising experience.

Tickets.com Launches Integrated Campaign on globalmedia.com and Scour

Leading entertainment and e-commerce site, Tickets.com, will be the first advertiser to launch an integrated campaign on one of globalmedia.com's nine Internet radio stations and on Scour, via a user initiated homepage button and user initiated banners. This campaign is Tickets.com's first "Webmercial" -- a short multi-media production using video clips, photos, illustrations, copy and music fused into an entertaining, music video-style commercial -- and is designed to build the Tickets.com brand and promote the sale of event tickets over the Internet.

"Tickets.com feels that this next generation of innovative Web advertising is an effective vehicle for dramatically communicating a targeted message to an avid online event going audience", said Andy Donkin, SVP Marketing for Tickets.com. "Even more importantly, research indicates that rich media greatly improves click through rates, which drives both our advertising effectiveness and our media budget efficiencies." Additional premier sites in L90's Broadband category include myCaster.com, IFILM and Sportspage.com.

L90 at the Forefront of the Broadband Trend

Broadband Internet access is a growing trend among consumers. According to the Yankee Group, there were 425,000 two-way cable modem and 25,000 DSL customers in 1998. In 1999 the number of cable modems increased to 1 million and the number of DSL subscribers to 250,000. By 2003 Forrester research predicts that there will be almost 26 million broadband subscribers accounting for 36 percent of the overall online population and Jupiter Communications reports that by 2002, approximately 1/3 of all online ads will be broadband oriented.

"These market trends underscore the fact that broadband access to the Internet offers consumers the ability to select, customize and control programming," stated Bohan. "We will continue to move our online advertising model towards clickable product placements, impulse transactions and content sponsorships because consumers demand it. We believe it will increase the effectiveness of our advertising campaigns," he said.

"Broadband is the ultimate advertising medium because it combines the rich, dynamic value of television and radio ads with the interactivity and instant response value of the Internet," Bohan finished. L90 will also offer advertisers the ability to track the results of advertising on L90Broadband through adMonitor(TM), the company's proprietary ad serving and tracking technology.
