Zee to launch Internet services

Zee Telefilms has unveiled its plans to launch its portal Zeenext.com with Internet connectivity on March 25, 2000. The company is starting its Internet Access Service on telephone in Mumbai and Delhi. These services would be unveiled through its 100% subsidiary E-connect Ltd.

Within a month, the company will start net connectivity through television cable. The present rates for Net access through telecom is Rs499 per month. The company currently charges Rs1,500 per month for Net access through cable in Bangalore. Zee is expecting the cable modem prices, which presently cost about Rs12,000 to come down to a more competitive level. At present, the customers have to purchase their own cable modems to get Internet access through cable.

ZeeNext.com, which was launched on Dec 25 '99 has around 130,000 users. This portal is an extended general horizontal portal encompassing two dozen vertical portals on areas likes news, current events, entertainment, lifestyle, travel, sports and e-mail services.
