SR Telecom Inc. receives $9 million in New Orders from Saudi Arabia MONTREAL, March 22 /CNW-PRN/ - SR Telecom (SRT) announced today that it has received additional orders from Lucent Technologies International Inc. (Saudi Arabian Branch) worth $9M for its SR500 wireless access systems and associated engineering services to provide high quality telephone service to the Saudi Telecom Company (STC). Deliveries are scheduled to be completed by the end of the first half of the current fiscal year. This order reflects STC's further expansion of its telecommunication network in Saudi Arabia under the TEP-6 program where Lucent is prime contractor. SRT signed an initial contract with Lucent in January 1995 for the provision of its SR500 systems to STC. These current orders will add capacity for over 14,000 subscriber lines to the SR500 networks in the country, increasing the total capacity to more than 35,000 lines. A number of the systems also employ the 3.5 and 10.5 GHz frequency bands, which enable the SR500 to be used in and around metropolitan areas. SRT President and Chief Executive Officer, Ron Couchman stated these orders not only underline SRT's existing strong presence in Saudi Arabia, but further validates the Company's technology. ``The SR500 equipment includes the latest versions of SRT's High Capacity subscriber outstations which can serve communities of over 100 subscribers as well as the High Capacity Central Station with V5.2 concentrated digital switch Interface, which provides the highest technical performance and most cost effective means to integrate into the operator's network.'
