The data does show that McCain's appeal was far more limited than anyone was told.

Besides, the data was seriously biased to the author's conclusion that only 1.5 million new voters were attracted by McCain. If you extrapolated the percent of new voters McCain attracted prior to the Bush smear campaign you would find that McCain would have indeed attracted millions if the entire country had the opportunity to vote.
