I have occasionally gotten prices materially worse than the current bid or ask when I have placed market orders. And this on widely traded, liquid stocks.

Now is that because the market price changed, or because your online broker somehow hosed you? They should be able to access the bid/ask data and correct any errors after the fact (if indeed there was an error).
