It would be most helpful for understanding if you could provide further explanation for these apparently contradictory statements. How can you get killed with covered calls if simple purchase of the common works?

Did you check with your broker to see if leaps are marginable? You might discuss w/ ed about buying some deep in the money leaps as stock substitute on something you really think is going to move--and at the same time as you sell puts. He could probably guide well on this and we'd all be interested to learn too.

are you aware that when you sell covered calls you can perform a repair? i just did with qcom which is running away as i write this post.
