Hi gale:

Although the pessimism surrounding WCII in Oct. 98
and LOR/G* now is similar., all businesses have to
be judged by their fundamentals. When the deployment
costs of fixed wireless were compared to fiber, it was
easy to see that WCII was going to be very successful.

For G*, I think the case remains to be made that
a market exists. The system clearly has something
that Iridium did not, namely it is working really well.
However, it is unfortunate the design took place
before Internet took off, since it would have been
really useful to have a data capability (this appears
to be what Craig McCaw is planing with ICO).

I view G* as far too risky right now. On the other
hand, at current levels LOR, or its convertible
preferred bond LORBF which was highlighted yesterday
on the LOR thread, have limited risk. Whether LOR/LORBF
have much upside remains to be seen, but I do not
believe there is too much downside left. I bought
back a partial position last week around $11 3/8.
I believe the non-G* assets of LOR are undervalued,
but my operating assumption is that G* will be a bust.

Best regards,

Bernard Levy
