Irasshaimase Malcolm! There is no doubt that interest in all things net is exploding here. Part of it is enthusiastic embrace, and part is like pulling teeth; most are too smart to NOT realize that it's ... get with it or die.

I was having a very interesting conversation with another Softbank investor (not on this board, unfortunately) the other night, who mentioned that something he fears most is a public framing of Son. His thesis/fear was that he has caused so much hardship to the traditional Japanese economy (never mind what he's DONE for the japanese economy) that it may have become intolerable, and that something "must be done about it." Let it be noted that this would not be unprecedented. The framing of public people who have become excessively powerful is a tried and true tradition here. Add his Koreanness--his *unJapaneseness*--to that equation and my friend's fear is not out of the question.

I am not saying this is at all likely, just that it wouldn't surprise me if it did.

And not to be conspiracy oriented, but the editor of The Economist is highly, highly respected in Japanese political power centers. They're still thanking him for his book that attempted to refute "the revisionists" back in the late 80s.
