Ted & Cirruslvr - MXTR <OT>

Message 13255531

Stranger things have happened. What's your take on this? Cirrus, what was your entry point of NTAP?

Dave,

For the most part when it comes to NAS (storage), NTAP (and EMC) are pretty much it and in the NAS vs SAN data storage battle, NAS is expected to be the winner long term. So any company including MXTR entering the business in a substantive way would get a positive response I would think.

But what evidence do you have that MXTR is making a major entry? You may want to PM me since this is OT.

One last point...a new company called Netstorage I think is about ready to IPO....they too are looking for a niche in this business. In my mind data storage is like the funeral business.....demand will never go away.

OTOT Dave - RE: MXTR

Network Appliance is the leader, or bellwether, in NAS so they get a high value, I guess like Intel is valued much higher than AMD. I don't know anything about MXTR or their NAS products. NetApp sells mid-high end NAS that can fetch 6 figures. But NAS also can also be really cheap, like say below $10,000 for not much storage (not a lot of gigs). NetApp also has propriety features that help increase reliability and uptime and help ensure a backup of the data. I think Quantum sells low-end NAS so maybe you can compare them or their future products to MXTR. If INTC vs. AMD is a good comparison, NTAP would probably be the "more surer" bet for the long term. Check out this chart of a competitor to NTAP - finance.yahoo.com The people who founded NTAP left Auspex. Sounds like how Intel got founded!

"what was your entry point of NTAP?"

After today, ~$12-13. ;) I oughta thank TGPTGTR (sp?), the first time I heard of NTAP was when he mentioned it on this thread last year.
