Indeed, any asset value can go down or up. Even index funds sometimes go down much to the delight of Tommasso. But, over the long run, their trends remain up and not down. Cars, on the other hand, have an overwhelmingly downward sloping value time-chart. Some cars become collectors items, but they form less than 1% of the total car market, and I think that your desparation shows when you try to pass that as an example and not an exception. And policies are made based on representative samples, not exceptions.
