In an effort to move my portfolio to a purer G/K mix (and an bald face attempt to time the market) I just sold all of my CREE and converted that cast to MSFT.

CREE has been very good to me and is allowing me to buy 2x the shares of MSFT that I otherwise could have afforded.

I'm keeping my Moissanite ring, though!

Hey, I have twice as much CSCO and NTAP as I did yesterday!

they don't like the ETEK/JDSU deal because "we don't want to get into a situation where there's only a single supplier." Maybe I haven't had my morning coffee yet... but ETEK was their only supplier and now JDSU/ETEK will still be their only supplier. What has changed? Am I missing something?

I think what the ALA guy is referring to is that there are no other suppliers for some components other than ETEK and JDSU. Using ALA's size, they can use both suppliers to get better deals on the components by moving their weight to the supplier with the better solution. Now, with the merger occuring, there is only one supplier and they will not be able to do that due to lack of competition.

FWIW,
Justin

Clearly, Alcatel was posturing for a favorable pricing arrangement. It is strange that Harrison, Alcatel's Vice President, was contradicted by Prabhu, Alcatel's COO, the very next day, with Prabhu now stating that yesterday's news wire report "did not accurately reflect its position regarding the proposed merger, that Alcatel did not file opposition to the proposed merger, and that Alcatel "look[s] forward to continuing good relationships after the merger is completed."
