OT: kis: your problem has always been one of perspective. These statements are just recent examples. With regard to security, it is a problem on most any large campus: ucla and stanford are two with which I'm personally familiar. For a long time, usc has successfully dealt with the issue to enable many of its programs to thrive: business, communications, film, to name just a few. They recently started one of the first biotech majors in the country. Overseas programs, greek life, alumni relations all thrive. Moreover, it's location allows for educationally enriching community outreach programs. The apparent result is excellent relations with the surrounding populace.

OT OT: On a separate note, I couldn't help but notice one difference between the private and public schools we visited. Both types have their places, of course. But private institutions must offer something tangibly distinctive to survive. In both pomona's and usc's cases, that showed.
