Tony, RE: CSCO PE, Intel cyclical

Sorry, I should have made my statement more clear. When I said:
"Also listed are CSCO and MSFT, and Merck and JPM with declining PE's."

Note the comma between CSCO and MSFT, and Merck and JPM with declining PE's. I meant that Intel, CSCO and MSFT had increasing PE's, Merck and JPM declining PE's. Here is what they had on CSCO:

Dec. 31 1997 - 48.1
Dec. 31 1998 - 98.7
Mar. 21 2000 - 193.0

As far as Intel being cyclical, I think the assumption is that growth and capacity dictate price. In '97, '98 and early '99 Intel had plenty of capacity and ASP's declined. Sometime in '99 growth picked up without the capacity to meet it, and ASP's are going up. Now Intel is hustling to open fabs, the assumption being that eventually there will be over-capacity again.

I'm not sure if I buy into this or not.

John

Tony, Amazing! Nothing like a stock split to send a stock soaring again. CSCO trading at new all-time high on heavy volume :-)
