I showed my e-book to a friend who is getting ready to go on an extensive tour of Europe. His comment? "Boy, if I could download all my travel guides into this thing, then edit the parts I want to emphasize, and it had GPS in it which i could integrate with the maps in it, it would be the perfect, perfect travel device". He's right.

I think what you're describing has already been developed, it's called 'The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy' ;-)

Hi, Pompsander. That device may indeed already be out there (Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy) and, with greater wireless data throughput coming our way later this year, combined with that GPS capability on one chip, you could download additional maps once you realize you've gone "off the board", like into Cockpit Country.

As an aside, the following is worth a half-interested chuckle:

biz.yahoo.com

which rumors that Liberty Media/News are interested in buying GM to get at Hughes. Sort of fits.

I hope nobody finds out how much I'd be willing to pay for that. What a terrific idea!

I'd buy the darned thing if I could simply download pdf files and use Acrobat's reader inside an e-book instead of having to have it on a laptop or desktop.
