The Sony announcement implies nothing of the kind:

"I do not believe that it is a huge stretch to infer from this that e.Digital has a very real prospect of building or designing players for Sony that do not require the cumbersome transcoding process."

The announcement is that EDig acquired a license from Sony - NOT the other way around. EDig is just one of many companies who have licensed this technology from Sony. It's in Sony's best interest to announce that they have as many licensees as possible, and they are going to put out a press release on every one of them.

To infer the inverse relationship is madness. But not surprising on this board.
