Duane,

Yes, I have been active in bowling in the Northwest for many years. I have many friends who have competed in the PBA. I am not a PBA level bowler but have carried a 200+ average for the past 5 years.

What has concerned me is the survival of bowling itself. It has always had an image problem - smoking and drinking. I am a lifelong non-smoker myself and have had to put up with habits of others for far too long. But things have improved in recent years. Many, who I never though would quit, have. California has banned smoking in bowling alleys and as far as I know the sport hasn't disappeared down there. We will have the same initiative on the ballot up here later this year.

Second, is the perception that bowling is not an athletic activity. Granted we are not talking marathons or sprints but it takes a lot of physical skills, timing and knowledge to become just an above average bowler. I have had the opportunity to bowl with athletes from other sports. There is no way they can compete at our level without a lot of work on their part. The average PBA bowler is only 5' 7" so anyone can compete if they really want to.

Anyway back to the market. Yes this has been one incredible market. A lot of new money coming in between now and Apr 15th. Looking to lighten up my holding by that date.

Jim
