What exactly are you referring to? Is this the issue that you must live within a certain amount of miles of the telephone company's central office in order for it to work? From the USeless Worst web site:How does U S WEST "qualify" my telephone line for MegaBit Service? There are several technical limitations of DSL service that may affect your ability to receive MegaBit Service on the telephone line you have selected. We, at U S WEST, have developed a qualification process that tests your individual telephone line for compatibility with MegaBit Service. We use our customer records to test your telephone line for common characteristics that are known to interfere with MegaBit Service. Some of these characteristics are described below. Once we receive your completed order form, we continue to perform various physical tests on your telephone line to ensure that you will be able to receive reliable, high-quality MegaBit Service. It is possible that these additional physical tests may reveal compatibility problems on your telephone line that were not identified in our initial testing. In that case, you will be notified immediately and your order will be cancelled. You will not be charged for MegaBit Service or equipment if additional testing reveals that your telephone line will not support MegaBit Service. We are working with our partners to develop solutions to make MegaBit Service accessible to all of our customers. As we develop new options for providing service, we will post that information on our MegaBit Services home page. However, at present, the following obstacles to receiving service do exist in some areas: <bullet> If your telephone line is served by Digital Loop Carrier (DLC) equipment, you will not be able to receive MegaBit Service. A DLC is a multiplexing device in the telephone network used to provide economical voice service to high growth and suburban areas. We are working on solutions to the DLC limitation with vendors. Once a solution is developed, we'll post that information on www.megaspeed.com. <bullet> If the telephone wire between the U S WEST Central Office and your premises is longer than 15,000 feet, you will not be able to receive MegaBit Service. The speed over which your line can transmit data is limited by the length of your telephone wire. At distances over 15,000 feet, MegaBit data transmission becomes unreliable. Please note that 15,000 feet means the length of your telephone wire, not the physical distance between your service location and the U S WEST Central Office. Other factors such as temperature, wire gauge, and condition of the wire may raise or lower the effective distance at which MegaBit Service can be offered. <bullet> If our testing reveals the presence of bridge taps, wire gauge changes or load coils on your telephone line, you will not presently be able to receive MegaBit Service. These devices are used to condition lines for higher quality voice signals. Unfortunately, they negatively impact MegaBit data transmission.
