Good question. That was about 27 Years ago when this country was involved in a fairly severe bear market. My professor was born and educated in Germany and he was big on cycles and the effects of monetary expansion and contraction. He was very weird but smart. He had translated some writings into English from Menger, Bawerk, and Edler and we spent a good part of the term discussing them. He kept on emphasizing that the economic cycle can be forestalled but never repealed.

I'll tell you a secret: I agree with him.
