"why buy SDL ?"
The short answer is, if there is indeed booming demand and limited supply along with high barriers to entry, why wouldn't you buy the company to guarantee more supply for yourself vs. your competitors ?

In any case, I hope SDL is not purchased, as there is greater growth for them as an independent than as part of a larger entity. cm

Cisco only purchased the fiber optic gear unit of Pirelli, not the whole company. However, I am not sure how many other units Pirelli has. It is a conglomerate, which now holds a ton of Cisco' stock. Guess they just saw their investment went up 10% in two days. Cisco will become the world's most valuable stock this year. Talking about the power of new economy. eom
