So AMD has enough authorized shares to do a 3:2 if they wanted to, but would most likely require a special meeting to do a 2:1 split. They usually want to maintain a healthy margin in # shares authorized minus # shares issued so that acquisitions can be made and stock options granted.

And its my understanding that that meeting can be held at anytime so long as shareholders are given the proper notice. The reason I say that is that someone posted earlier that because no action was taken recently, there can not be a split until next year.

BTW I am not necessarily pro split. It can be highly dilutive if the company does not maintain a high rate of growth.
