The G4e design wasn't even complete 6 months ago. Moto barely was shipping the G4 in .25um six months ago. AMD was still at .25um six months ago. AMD had ZERO Cu BEOL capability 6 months ago. But it does make some sense NOW. AMD is ready to open a state of the art mega fab producing .18um state of the art 1GHz Cu BEOL CPUs with on chip 256K L2 cache and local interconnect.
