<< the success of ALA's CO dominance (now a WSTL strength).>>

Dan, last year WSTL partnered with ALA, used their chips, and made a compatible modem better than any other. Since most of the major ILEC's worldwide have chosen ALA for their central office equipment (50% penetration worldwide), WSTL has a huge market to sell into with the best modem available.

WSTL does continue to have a piece of the CO market through Fujitsu who uses WSTL equipment and supports their research endeavors. It is through this arrangement that WSTL is currently supplying British Telecom COs.

Thus WSTL gets a small piece of a big pie with respect to the central office. By making both CO and CPE equipment they can anticipate the needs of the market and can implement compatibility issues not perceived by companies that just make one or the other. This is a great business stategy. Thank you Mark Zionts.

All the best,
Michael
