Yes, and from Annapolis, there is no serious time advantage to going to the airport. Allowing extra time for parking and check in, and assuming arrival at Kennedy, the train is faster, actually, since I am about 25 minutes from the New Carrollton station, right off the Beltway and Rte. 50. And yes, an inexpensive bullet train, assuming it were feasible, would be great. Getting to Boston in the time it now takes to get to New York would tip the balance towards the train. But I still doubt that passenger service will become economically viable outside of the Northeast, and I love to drive around the Washington area, over to the ocean, down Skyline Drive.......My main point is the one about density, though. You are right, feasibility of public transportation depends upon high concentrations of people, and most prefer the 'burbs.........

Brian,

You say,
As for me, I'd much rather pay someone else to drive the train or the bus, and sit back and relax and read. I view long-distance driving as a monotonous chore.

That is great. That is certainly your right to do so. Go ahead and sell your car, as there are Greyhound buses running all day long.

As for me, I love to drive, and I love to take detours down some FM road and see what is at the end of it, or stop for an hour at a lake on the route, or whatever.(Another good reason to own a Suburban, I keep my fishing rods, tackle, sleeping bag, etc etc in it at all times.)

Unfortunately you may not be able to do that on a Greyhound. But to each his own.

dan

What is your favorite train song?
