(COMTEX) B: Intersil's PRISM Technology Selected For 3Com's First Hig
B: Intersil's PRISM Technology Selected For 3Com's First High Speed Wireless
LAN Solution

PALM BAY, Fla., Mar 24, 2000 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Intersil Holding
Corporation (Nasdaq:ISIL), the world's leading developer of silicon
technology for Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs), today announced
that 3Com Corporation (Nasdaq:COMS) has incorporated its PRISM(R) chips
in a new high-performance WLAN system now available to the enterprise
market.

The 3Com(R) AirConnect(R) 11 Mbps Wireless LAN, which hit the market in
January, improves organizational productivity by extending companies'
wired networks beyond the desktop to conference rooms, lobbies, and
other public spaces. Users have access to data, e-mail and the Internet
- anywhere in the enterprise - while remaining connected to the
network. The AirConnect solution also reduces the time and cost of
implementing, using and managing a wireless network, while simplifying
connectivity to minimize support calls from mobile users.

"3Com's commitment to the wireless networking space is a tremendous
boost for this market," said Larry Ciaccia, vice president and general
manager of Intersil's PRISM Wireless Products business unit. "Their
decision to partner with Intersil to deliver on this commitment is
another strong vote of confidence for our technology, and we look
forward to continued collaboration with 3Com to make wireless networks
a mainstay in the enterprise environment."

With an 11 million bit per second (Mbps) data transmission speed,
3Com's new enterprise WLAN is comparable to wired Ethernet systems and
also complies with the new IEEE 802.11b High Rate standard. The system
consists of wireless access points, notebook PC Cards and desktop and
PCI Cards. The access point acts as a bridge between the wired network
and up to 63 wireless clients whose laptop, desktop PC or other
wireless appliances are fitted with either a PC or NIC card.

Built into each access point are a variety of management interfaces
enabling network managers to monitor performance, change configurations
or run diagnostics anywhere on the network by launching their Web
browser. 3Com also offers a Wireless LAN Consulting Services group that
helps customers minimize the process of implementing wireless
technology and accelerate the return on their network investment.

"3Com's mission in the wireless LAN market is to enable effortless
access to information in order to improve organizational
decision-making and workflow," said Paul Fulton, vice president and
general manager of 3Com's Wireless Connectivity Division. "Our
relationship with Intersil provides 3Com with high-performance,
reliable wireless technology that is key in achieving this goal."

"3Com's ability to provide quality customer support for its wireless
LAN systems makes them a valuable partner in the enterprise space,"
said Glenn Boyd, director of worldwide wireless business development,
PRISM Wireless Products. "Reliability is key in the corporate
environment, and 3Com has devoted the technical resources necessary to
maintain a high level of reliability in its wireless systems that its
customers have come to depend on in its wired infrastructures.
Combining their reputation for world-class technical support with
Intersil's PRISM technology makes for a strong relationship."

Adoption of PRISM WLAN Technology Since introducing the PRISM WLAN chip
set in 1996, over fifty companies have incorporated PRISM chips in more
than 100 product designs. PRISM technology is designed to comply with
the IEEE's 802.11 global standard and Intersil is a founding sponsor of
the Wireless Ethernet Compatibility Alliance (WECA), whose Wi-Fi (TM)
brand will be a mark of compatibility between various 802.11-based
systems.

Intersil has a continuing program to rapidly introduce better
performing, more highly integrated generations of PRISM chip sets and
supporting design tools. PRISM chips are used in WLAN systems from
industry-leading companies including Nokia, Siemens, Compaq, 3Com,
Nortel, Samsung, Dell, Zoom, Cisco/Aironet, and SpectraLink.
