I agree we should take this bird statement as a clue to Terabeam's technology, and not just dismiss it off hand. If the bird is no bigger than 85% of the beam size, then we know the beam size, provided someone knows how big birds are in Seattle (gulls?) If the statement is to be taken to be completely true, then the beam size on transmission is larger than the bird, and just as important, the size of the lens/receiving-mirror used to gather the beam is also at least 15% larger (in area) than the bird.
