Thanks that what I thought, no shorting of stock or writing of options in an IRA, as per government regulations.

I'm not sure why every broker doesn't allow purchasing calls and LEAPS as these are options on long positions which are entirely appropriate, albeit more risky, investments for an IRA.

Buying puts in an IRA allow you to speculate on a downside move in the market, which is otherwise very difficult to do inside of an IRA. I can see why some brokerages would restrict this practice.

Writing covered calls is a very conservative thing to do so it also should be allowed in an IRA.

Who is Fido,

How do I contact them.
I would have had RMBS leaps instead of RMBS in my IRA account. BIG SIGH and BIG LOSS to me.
