But seriously, to view ourselves and or the unborn as "parasites" just creates negative vibes in my opinion.
It may- but that doesn't make it untrue.
From AHD:
parasite-- an organism that grows feeds and is sheltered on or in a different organism while contributing nothing to the survival of its host
Neo pointed out that the body makes adjustments to accommodate the baby, but could these be considered contributing to the host's survival when they take place to help the body survive the parasite, and are not something that the parasite itself contributes.
It's a unique parasite, for sure.

Most people don't view it that way- would never label their babies parasites. The question was raised becuase Neo used the term 'mutually beneficial', and we went from there. None of us is saying that this parasitism (?? I'm making up these words all over the place) is unwanted or "bad", though I admit that when you hear the word, it makes you think of charming things like tapeworms.

I think that's only because the word 'parasite' has negative connotations...like the word 'prostitute'.

A Gestating Woman is providing a Host environment and is in a purely "parasitic relationship" with Her Fetus...it REQUIRES the Woman's HeartBeat and Blood Supply to continue development...there's no way around it!

However, this does not mean that it is necessarily a malefic relationship...most Gestating Women have CHOSEN to provide life support for the Fetus...to be in that natural parasitic relationship with the Fetus.

Let's not fool ourselves though, Gestation is not 'symbiotic'.
