When I read it I thought their motive was to keep the Judge from ruling on Tuesday, as I understand he had threatened to do. I'm not sure how delay fits their overall plan -- maybe they've got something in the wings -- but I think the offer was made for delay rather than in the expectation of settling.

JMHO, of course, and neither legal nor investment advice.

I've never said this before but I think MSFT might be a good short sell right about here (not that I would engage in that type of trade). --- I really have the strong impression that the only remedy (or deal) is going to involve the Windows codebase. --- Microsoft was under a modifying order before all this crap began. There's no way that that type of order is going to cut it here. M$ has clearly demonstrated to the Government(s) what they're all about. --- Did they REALLY just offer to decouple the browser from the OS? After all that? After unreversable innovation? --- You know what I think Qwiksand? I think next week is a good week to hold $10 CORL (looking for a reflex to a likely Judge PJ action). --- If there's a deal (and like you I doubt it). It won't be one that sees MSFT shareholders smiling (IMO) -JCJ

Dear QS: I think it unlikely we the public have any idea what the deal will be. Hard for me to imagin the prosecutors will accept the crap I have read as a worthy settlement. All this talk of opening up the Code, from what I have heard, who in the hell wants it? Agree with you on the browser. JDN

In fact, wasn't there a BOOK by some proffesor? I said it would be a CLEAN product and I was right. And I aint no proffesor and I didn't write no book. But I DO have a philosophy. It is w2k. Hey if JC can REALLY believe in UNIX, why not? <G>
