Your questions regarding csco and nt and fiberoptics and networking is all pretty much covered in gilders oct. report
from last year.I would post it but that would get me in trouble again.Its a very good read and actually understandable for non-techies.If you don't subscribe to him its worth the $295 a year.If I remember correctly,going forward he thought the biggest challenge to csco was from the fact that current layering of networks which is 7 layers would be reduced to 3 layers and sonet based routers would be replaced.He thought companies like scmr were the coming up with products that pose a danger to csco domain.

Bruce has been following this whole subject very closely and if we can get him away from the fool,he might have some valuable contribution on it.

My understanding of the whole report was that most new products coming from the likes of nt and others were all sonet based and therefore not a disruptive technology as csco dominance is based on its routers due to its software.

Just my understanding of it and by no means a fact.
