I dont mind paying five times the commissions to my broker
they allow 35% QCOM margin maintenance levels
a big advantage of fullservice

without such regular liberal margin allowance, I would not be cruising around in a Beemr, resigned from working for the man, and filling gstrings with GeorgeW replicas... last autumn I used massive margin to finance piles and piles of QCOM option calls... many thanks to Josephthal... for other reasons I am now with Oppenheimer, where my broker steed now has transferred

I have long argued the horrors of discount brokers:
you get what you pay for
- poor execution, poor response during fast market times, high margin reqmts, etc

I will never forget the guy who told me his sad story
he tried to exit a stock with 10,000 shares
he couldnt get thru to Fidelity almost all day
it was a fast market for most the day, heavy volume
his sale late in the day was 3 pts lower than the morning price
he lost $30,000
commission: very much discounted (what a bargain!)

I will gladly pay $125-180 per trade on blocks worth $30-50k
my broker discounts me plenty

penny wise, pound foolish -- not me
