carl, RE What was learned?

I value your comments on your own investing and use of margin as it is obvious you are trying to help others rather than advise. There's a big difference. Your willingness to share and desire to help others avoid some the mistakes you know all too well, come shining through. Thanks!

Your question, "What was learned?", may be the most important question anyone ever asks. When someone asks that question again and again, rather than trying to forget a bad experience, he or she is bound to benefit.

We all make mistakes, some of our own making, some exaggerated by a myriad of factors out of our control. Looking for the answer to that question makes the difference between a disaster and an education.

Couldn't help but think that Intel asks that question over and over. You and your favorite company think alike!

Humble AND wiser. That says it all.

Continued success, in learning, sharing AND investing.

HWC:
Re: Intc, gorillas, etc.
As a long-time Si lurker, very occasional poster, my 2nd to you for informative posts, as well as thanks to your ritual offerings. Our only gorillas have been INTC and AMAT, 4+ and 3 yrs. respectively, basis of 13 and 17, way too high for those around here but we're content. (25 yo Older son has gorillas EMC and ORCL at basis of 10 & 12 respectively).Amazing how the analysts catch up with these cos. after major moves. While Cisco continues to cream, our own growing chimpanzee Nortel(NT)has been the monster of the year, and their fiber optic lead is imho still a factor for big pops in the future, along with some very heady purchases using its run-up in market cap; reminds me of a chipmaker's strategy enjoyed by many around here.
For Paul and all other intc investors, just a note that our youngest son working (very hard) for a very successful private software co. in Austin, Tx, Trilogy Corp., last week ALL their employees were upgraded to IBM laptops with... (drumroll) PIII 750s (I think)INTEL INSIDE, with mega gigs and all sorts of goodies. His review: "It is very sweet".
Trilogy is co-sponsoring a B2B event 1st week of April in Manhattan (I kept the full page ads in the WSJ for our scrapbook, to frame when some day, some year they go public;) They will be promoting big software, with the big guys in major industries, and pushing those keyboards with INTEL INSIDE.
I like that.
So I like gorillas but some chimpanzees do grow big and strong.

Regards, Royco
