come late to the fiber optics party and still dominate
The established player, with a clear upgrade path always has the advantage. That doesn't mean they can't blow it by non-delivery, but the established player gets a big head start if the race is anywhere near even. It's Cisco's game to lose, no one beats them unless they are clearly better and protected from being bought out.

Mike B--Picked up a little DITC last wk. Leader in echo cancellation on packet networks and growing like topsy. No, I don't have the G&K analysis.

Thanks Mike for correcting me on gorilla/royalty and market share. How quickly we lose the finer, and yet so critical, points. Now the question is what kind of scenario are we actually dealing with? I know the sector (fiber optic) has a lot of very complex equipment and the market is exploding so fast that the industry would be quite likely to quickly adapt a new standard just to speed product to customers. But if NT has, or is, pushing a proprietary standard I do not know at this point in time.
